Avinashi Tirupur

Avinashi meaning 'Cannot be Destroyed"is a town situated in Tirupur District. The town is ruled by a separate municipal administration that falls under the jurisdiction of Tirupur District. The town lies in Tirupur's Special Economic Zone. It is well connected through air, land and rail. The Coimbatore International Airport is just 22 KM from Avinashi. Likewise, Tirupur Railway Station is just 15 KM from the town. Major industries in the city are powerlooms, timber works, textiles, garments, poultry and engineering industries like motors and pumps.

History of Avinashi

AvinashiHistorically, Avinashi belonged to the kingdom of Kongunadu. Conversely, it captured Avinashi due to its cultural, spiritual and architectural significance. The Shiva Temple in Avinashi was built several years ago which is visited by hundreds of devotees every year.

Festivals in Avinashi

The Avinashi Car Temple festival is extremely famous in and around Tirupur. The festival is celebrated during the Chithirai Maasam. It falls between the months of April and May, in relevance with the English Calender. During the festival, the temple car would be pulled by its devotees. However, due to the height and size of the new Avinashi Temple Car, bull dozers are used to move the car. Apart from the car festival, another important festival, which is celebrated with lots of energy, is the ‘Arubathimoovarula’which is about 63 devotees of Lord Shiva as depicted in Periyapuranam.

Significant Features of Avinashi


Unlike many other temples, the Avinashiappar temple in Avinashi is different. The temple's Ambal Festivals in Avinashisanctum is present to the right of the Avinashiappar's sanctum. Legitimately, the Avinashiappar temple is managed, protected and monitored by the Archeological Survey of India. The town's Kasi Gangai Theertham is also of great significance. The temple has a "powerful" Kallabhairavar Shrine, which is worshiped with Vadai Maalais. Vadai is a special South Indian dish, that is made of dhal and rice flour.

The place has three cinema theatres, namely Sri Karunambika, Chitralaya, Sindhamani Theatres and Vaaranashi Multiplex. Additionally, people who visit the city must stop by its famous temples like the Mondipalayam Sri Balaji Temple,  Thalakkarai Lakshmi Narashima Temple, Sevur Vaaleeswarar Temple,Chenniaandaver Temple, Karuvalur Mariamman Temple, Mariyamman temple in Sembakovandampalayam, and Poththampalayam Karupparayar Temple.
